Programme Description for a minor in General Linguistics

The B.A. minor in General Linguistics can be combined with any major at the Neuphilological Faculty. The courses for the B.A. minor must be completed during the foundation period (Sem 1-4) of the chosen course of study.

The minor in General Linguistics concerns iteself with the foundations of General and Theoretical Linguistics. This module is divided into a number of core areas (Syntax, Semantics, Phonetics and Phonology) and a number of adjacent areas (Morphology, Pragmatics, Formal Methods).

The following courses are requirements for the B.A. minor:

  • Introduction to General Linguistics
  • Two introductory courses to core areas
  • One seminar or lecture in one of the adjacent areas
  • One major course (including a term paper or a presentation)

Language Requirements:

  • Good knowledge of English
  • Moderate knowledge of a second foreign language
