Abstract

Distributional idiosyncrasies have not received much attention in formal linguistics, and, thus, it is no surprise that so far grammars in existing frameworks have provided no means to express the attested occurrence restrictions. Adopting the framework of HPSG, we show how the necessary restrictions can be stated in the lexical entries of cranberry words. A new feature, COLL, used for this purpose can be seen as a periphery module that leaves the principle-governed part of the grammar untouched. Our analysis is thus in line with the general research program of generative linguistics.
