Paper presented at the workshop on Präpositionalsemantik und PP-Anbindung at KONVENS 96 in Bielefeld.
In this paper it is argued that using an HPSG with a strong linearization component it is possible to assign sentences with ambiguous PP-adjuncts a unique syntactic structure. The possible readings, which may depend on the actual word order, are given by an underspecified semantics. For this purpose a higher-order constraint language along the lines of ( Bos 1995) is integrated into HPSG. In contrast to other approaches, we define the semantic metalanguage on the object level of HPSG.
