Editorial

"In the absence of anything approaching a rigorous methodology, we must seriously question whether the data gathered in this way are at all meaningful or useful to the linguistic enterprise."
(Schuetze, 1996)
Dear Colleagues,

this is the seventh issue of the HPSG gazette. After two years of co-editing the gazette, Adam is getting ready to move back with his family to Poland. He therefore wants to discontinue editing and passes on the stick to Mike Calcagno. Thank you for the good co-operation in setting up and editing the Gazette, Adam! And welcome on board, Mike!

Another change concerns the number of issues per year. It turns out that a spring and a winter issue of the Gazette are sufficient to broadcast the available information. This also makes the division of work between the mailing list and the Gazette clearer: The HPSG mailing list serves as the direct link to the HPSG community, while the Gazette is a digest intended to keep relevant information around, report on past events, provide abstracts of new publications and projects, and collect bits and pieces which are not important or urgent enough to be posted on the HPSG list by themselves.

To ensure that information on newly available papers is widely available, we would like to encourage everyone again to include their recent manuscripts and publications in the single most comprehensive collection of HPSG publications at http://www.dfki.de/lt/HPSG. By filling out a simple form at that address you can inform the entire community. Additionally, you can include a link if you want to make the paper available electronically. And, without any extra effort on your part, all such information is included in the next gazette.

We hope you enjoy this issue. As always please let us know about HPSG-related talks you have delivered or heard, new HPSG publications, theses and dissertations, new HPSG projects, moves within the HPSG community or any other kind of HPSG related information by sending an email to gazette@sfs.nphil.uni-tuebingen.de

Best regards,
Detmar Meurers and Adam Przepiorkowski
