The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, San Diego has an assistant professor, tenure-track position in computational linguistics beginning academic year 1999-2000. Candidates must expect to complete a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the relevance of their research interests to issues in theoretical linguistics; in addition to the traditional core sub-fields (phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics), possible points of contact include but are by no means limited to acquisition, discourse/information structure, morphology, sentence processing, etc. There are no restrictions on theoretical orientation or methodology. Qualifications include research productivity, knowledge of theoretical linguistics, and ability to teach and advise graduate and undergraduate students. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience and will be based on current University of California salary scales. A letter of application, a curriculum vitae, one research sample (publication or draft) and the names and addresses of three referees should be sent to:
