HPSG 99

The 6th International Conference on HPSG will be held at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, on August 4th to 6th 1999, hosted by the Human Communication Research Centre and the Department of Linguistics. The conference will feature a special session on GRAMMATICAL INTERFACES, exploring the interaction of parts of the sign that encode different types of grammatical information, e.g. syntax/morphology, semantics/syntax, phonology/syntax, etc. For further information, check out http://www.cogsci.ed.ac.uk/~hpsg99/

Upcoming Events at Paris 7

• Paola Monachesi will teach a course on Italian and Romanian in HPSG at Paris 7 in May/June 1999.

• Daniele Godard and Anne Abeille will be giving a talk on Interaction between reflexives and causatives on january 29-30 at the workshop on SE and argument structure organized in Paris 7 by C. Sorin and E. Reuland.

HPSG related courses at the 1999 Linguistic Institute

Next summer there are four HPSG-related courses being taught at the 1999 Linguistic Institute, held in Urbana Illinois, which is cosponsored by UIUC, the LSA, the ACL, and AAAI. These are:

• Ivan Sag and Gert Webelhuth: Wh-Constructions.

• Shalom Lappin and Carl Pollard: Situation Semantics for Constraint-Based Grammar.

• Erhard Hinrichs: Grammar Development in Constraint-Based Grammar Formalisms.

• Ann Copestake: The Lexicon in Computational Linguistics.

VEXTAL 98

The VEXTAL Conference will be held in the Auditorium S.Margherita of the University Ca' Foscari - Venice(It), 20 - 22 September, 1999. (deadline: 6 March 1999) It is directed to research people working in the area of computational linguistics, mathematical and quantitative linguistics, corpus linguistics and language engineering.
