Welcome to my Page,

I'm Roland, Ph.D. Student in Linguistics and Scientific Assistant at the University of Tübingen, Germany. I'm working in the Department for General Linguistics (Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft). My research interests are particularly turning on the task to apply methods from Game Theory to explain Linguistic Phenomena, especially Language Conventions. Here is a small Selection of my Research Topics:

  • Phenomena in Language Evolution (via Evolutionary Game Theory, especially in combination with Signaling Games)
  • Phenomena in Sociolinguistics (e.g. via Simulations of Language Games on Social Network)
  • Phenomena in Pragmatics (Modelling of Agents' Rational Deliberation Processes for Communication Situations)

"Conventions are like fires: under favourable conditions, a sufficient concentration of heat spreads and perpetuates itself. The nature of the fire does not depend on the original source of heat. Matches may be the best fire starters, but that is no reason to think of fires started otherwise as any the less fires."

David Lewis
