Research

I am interested in computational linguistics, syntax, and the analysis of learner language.

I am currently working on CoALLa (Computational Analysis of Learner Language). We are developing a modular architecture for normalizing learner language with respect to form and meaning within a given task context, in particular answers to reading comprehension exercises from the Corpus of Reading Comprehension Exercises in German.

From 2012-2014, I worked on MERLIN (Multilingual Platform for the European Reference Levels: Interlanguage Exploration in Context), an online platform that illustrates language characteristics for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with a new corpus of Czech, German, and Italian learner texts from levels A1-C1.

From 2010-2012, I worked on Working with English Real Texts (WERTi) and Visual Input Enhancement of the Web (VIEW), the new multilingual extension of WERTi. The WERTi and VIEW tools create language learning activities from authentic web texts chosen by learners.

I have worked previously as an intern at IBM on active learning for named entity recognition and as a graduate research associate in DECCA (Detection of Errors and Correction in Corpus Annotation) on the automatic detection of annotation errors in linguistically annotated corpora.
